Online Dating Association announces new Communications & Policy Director

The Online Dating Association (ODA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Hannah Shimko as our new Communications and Policy Director. This role will focus on the development of the ODA’s strategy, policy & advocacy, communications and engagement with its members as well as promoting safety, privacy and inclusion across the sector. Hannah’s appointment follows the retirement of George Kidd.

Hannah has joined the ODA from the Heritage Alliance, where she was Head of Policy and Communications, leading on advocacy and communications throughout the Covid-19 pandemic. Prior to this role, she worked for Savills, ran a National Lottery Heritage Fund project, delivered communications consulting for technology start-ups and wrote insight reports on the creative industries. She completed her PhD from the University of Birmingham in 2020.

Hannah’s appointment signals a period of growth and a revamping of the strategy and direction of the ODA. The Association looks forward to releasing further announcements in due course, alongside a programme of engaging our membership, and the broader sector, on the future of the online dating landscape and how the ODA can best deliver its objectives.

Following her appointment Hannah Shimko said:

‘I am delighted to join the Online Dating Association in this newly developed role. I look forward to engaging with our members, as well as the wider sector, on priorities and challenges in the spheres of policy, regulation, privacy and safety. I am also keen to hear all the wonderful stories of the successful relationships the online dating sector makes happen!’

The Board members of the Online Dating Association said:

'The ODA Board warmly welcome Hannah's appointment. Hannah comes with new ideas and approaches that will improve member experiences. Online dating is a vital part of our communities, and the sector has never been as vibrant and dynamic. There are real material benefits for joining the ODA, and we are always seeking new members to join the Association to further our agenda and deliver upon our shared objectives. The Board looks forward to working with Hannah, our members, and stakeholders in the industry to engage with policymakers on continuing to deliver on our mission.’
